And over a 3 year period, surveying and interviewing thousands of Australian employees, the answer became clear...
Engaged AND enabled AND empowered
Our research showed that high-performing teams are populated with a critical mass of people who are engaged to go 'on the journey', enabled to do their job 'like a black belt' and empowered to realise their potential - at the very least in their roles but ideally as human beings. Engaged, enabled and empowered - we call it E3.
E3 Cultures of Leadership
What we also learned was that when your people feel suitably engaged and enabled and empowered they are then willing to commit autonomous Acts of Leadership, regardless of whether they hold a leadership title or not! Because the environment fosters that and makes it psychologically safe to do so.
